You should be able to freeze frame at any point in a grapple, especially during a guard pass for example, to test how strong your structure is.
Are you over-extended or strongly rooted in the ground?
If you’re exposing yourself, take the time to reset before proceeding, otherwise you’re reinforcing bad habits.
Also, constantly explore and be open to ways of strengthening and improving your posture from all positions (i.e. how can you make your basic approach from mount stronger and/or is your basic approach from mount fundamentally flawed?).
Think critically, using the body for feedback. Strong positioning feels strong.
