Guard: Core Focus

Breaking down sweeps this weekend I realized what I’m essentially sweeping is a persons core. Get their core moving and appendages follow. I realize what I’m talking about is the age-old adage of ‘hips, hips, hips’ but for some reason this never gelled with me. Looking back I was thinking in terms of two hip separate hip bones attached to legs instead of the pelvis/trunk as one unit.

Application: Watch a skilled BJJ player and focus solely on core movement.

More on faceless observation soon…
