Principles: Strength Distribution Re-Visited

Watched a UFC match yesterday which made me re-think the idea of allocating 70-95% of a positional workload to the legs based on the idea that they are 7-10 stronger than our arms from observing a competitor who was very good, but all legs.

These are the type of grapplers who can be dangerous if you don’t respect them, but you don’t feel much power behind their technique.  Why?  Because they aren’t using glutes and abs to engage their hips.  Hence they’re wiry but not strong bio-mechanically.

So, the ‘update’ is using our legs to engage the core/center, and thinking of the body as an entire unit as opposed to isolated parts.  One metaphor for example, is using the body as whip that harnesses it’s energy from the mat.
